So I a while back I reserved a lodge with private views of
white wolves located on-site in a zoo. When
CO-VID happened it was canceled and then re-confirmed once restrictions were
eased.
I like zoos. I went a lot with my parents when I was young. Living in the suburbs that was my only chance
to see animals other than pigeons. As an adult though one becomes aware of the
complex moral questions raised about animals in captivity.
After having spent three months confined in my apartment, I
saw these animals in captivity in a different light. Sure, they are well fed and well taken care
of, then again so was I. But the accumulated lack of freedom took its toll on me. After three months I could hardly stand
it. I longed to be free.
So yeah maybe a zoo wasn’t the best thing to go to after three
months of lockdown. My kids enjoyed it
though.
Tough.
