dance day 42

So my son started daycare again.  When I went to pick him up instead of entering in the door code to let myself in I had to ring to be let in.  When the person came she asked me to sanitize my hands with hand sanitizer and to wait because there was already another family there picking up their kid.  In the meantime I could put on the shoe guards.  When I reached for them she informed me I was reaching for the dirty ones.  Sorry I said, I'm out of practice.

As I waited I recalled the time when, during a family walk we happened upon one of my son's favorite caretakers.  The daycare had partially re-opened so she was working and was wearing plastic covering over her clothes and a mask on her face.  We almost didn't recognize her at first.

She said hello to my son.  He was sitting on my husband's shoulder at the time and hide his face in my husband's hair.  She took off her mask and tried again.  He still hide.  We tried to help by telling him who it was.  Still he hide his face. I was surprised, she was one of his favorites. He never took his face out of my husband's hair until we walked away.

I thought about this when the person announced I could go in.  When I got to his section, I spotted him sitting on the ledge of the outside play area with his back to me, his silhouette dwarfed by the silhouette of the adult sitting next to him.  As I approached I could hear him chatting away to the same person from whom he had hid his face a couple of weeks ago.

I almost felt bad disturbing them.
