4. Have the check in guy tell you that actually you are not allowed into the U.S. even for a layover if you had been in the EU within the last 14 days

5. Watch as he counts the number of days you must remain in Mexico before leaving on not one hand but two hands

6. Tell him that you checked before leaving and you didn't see that rule  

7. Watch as he looks at you like he doesn't care

8. Tell them you have young kids waiting for you at home

9. Watch as he looks at you like he does care but can't help you

10. Linger trying to connect to airport internet

11. Think about how to explain to husband and kids while lingering

12. Be unable to connect to airport internet

13. Be helpless without a smartphone data plan in Mexico or ability to connect to airport internet

14. Be happy when the check in guy flags you down and says perhaps it's ok because you are American and he would check with his boss
